Our future in question ?

Why the future needs us.

When the question 'Why the future does not need us' is mentioned, I ask myself, how would this be possible? We all know that the 21st century technologies are there to facilitate us with our everyday life. For this reason, humans assume that the machines will be able one day to take over and make the human race extinct. An example for this is a new worker on site, is there to help you with the task needed to be done; we as humans become fiery that he or she will take over the position. The human mentality is always manipulating by order the media, other people, or even the government with negative thoughts for every little thing happening in the world to keep us listening to them. Just like the turn of the millennium, the world was supposed to end. For this reason, I will try to demonstrate with citations, that we will indeed not be extinct from the future because of robots but maybe from collective violence or even ourselves.

Robotics

First, the question we can all ask ourselves is, What defines a human or robot? In this century, are not we already there? Robotic parts are being installed in humans to help with biological problems. Therefore, we must be considered machines. In cloning a human, the biological clone must be considered robot for the reason that it is man made even though it is biologically made. The only thing that I can foresee is that we will be a more advanced species who will always adapt to new changes. A robot could never take over since it can not reproduce itself like humans. Also it cannot imagine, dream, or even have the common sense of humans. The android does not have the reproduction system or the common thought of humans. If ever the robot does try to dispose of the human race through collective violence, then all races will be extinct including machine. For instance, if robots decided to destroy humanity, their wrong doing will bring self destruction to them in the future. Nobody will be there to fix any new or suspected problems that the near future has in store for life on earth. Only man can make the human race be destroyed like it is done many times with endangered species and our own environment. Also, robots would indeed annihilate the planet if they tried to reproduce themselves because of materials. For example, there would be a lack of iron, therefore there would be a need to mine for minerals out of the planets; this as we know is impossible now. In addition, robots would have to build an economy just to be able to duplicate themselve. A robot would need to be in charge of different groups in the operation of reproducing another machine, of making power, of producing operating fluids, and many more. Humans were created with flaws, but that is one defining characteristic of humanity. Any technology, like nanotechnology, genetic engineering, or machine can be dangerous, but it is the way humans use said technology that renders it dangerous. On its own, the technology is neither good nor bad: it is the way that the technology is used by us that determines whether it is good or bad.We currently serve grocery stores throughout Quebec, from Gatineau to Montreal and are presently entering the market in Ottawa (Ontario), East to West.

Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology has benefits to the human race through medicine or operations for example. We now know that any new technology consists of pros and cons. First, nanotechnology is 1-100 nanometers in size, which is the same size as asbestos dust. Therefore, we can ask ourselves if this might be another material that can cause all kinds of problems like lung cancer or methelioma. I find that scientists are not taking enough time to study the technology because of profit that could be made. Four billion dollars have already been invested in research. This beautiful new study can give much if done properly and safely; but as perfect as we, humans are made with such curiosity, we are impatient with studies. We have to take into account that these tiny particles can be absorbed by our three entry points (inhalation, absorption, digestive). Hence, in the wrong hands, a catastrophic event can destroy all Earth. Also, the atomic bomb research was a new technology that promised all kinds of wonderful things, like the future of electricity and enabling cancer research. As a result, nanotechnology should be looked at in depth with caution so we can take advantage of the research that the scientists have found and not have to abolish everything for theorist reasons or for our selfishness. The human intelligence and ethics are not developed enough to understand all possible outcomes yet.

C.A.D

Second, one program that would facilitate the research and development of new technology is CAD. It would also provide a new way of looking at nanotechnology and it would provide a more efficient way of accomplishing these tasks.

Genetics

Third, what are genetics? 'In human beings and other bio-species, the synthesis of protein and the reproduction of cells and tissue take place according to the genetic blueprint contained in the genes. There are approximately 7000 to 10000 kinds of genes of different sizes and properties in the human body.'(Published in Vajra Bodhi Sea, April, 1998 and May, 1998, 'On genetic Engineering'). Now that we understand what genes are we can speculate that by changing the DNA in the genes we can produce different effects. With this new technology, we can now play with the genes of an embryo and select the eye or hair color and other characteristics of the unborn baby. For the little positive effect it has on us, the potential disaster it can cause should help up see this before something happens. Religious people would say it is not our place to 'play God'. Who can say that the next evolutionary step for mankind is not genetic engineering? This could very well be the key to our advancement as a civilization. All animals being killed or made to be extinct should not be accepted. But on the other hand, scientists say that they are not playing God, but playing doctor. We know that possibly our health and aging process can be altered for our benefit, but viruses and disease will spread even more because people will be able to carry the disease and not die young, but pass it on to there children. Their children will perhaps pass it on to the next generation? For example, asthma or even a cold was considered a deadly symptom to have but with genetic engineering, we can now live longer with it; Instead of ending the disease at the source, we must now cure it temporarily and pass it on till it is completely cured. Research in genetic engineering is important for humanity because it promises to obliterate diseases that we can now only temporarily cure.

In conclusion, we can think what we want when it comes to the future, but nobody really knows the outcome. We can make all kinds of theories to support our opinion, but through trial and error we learn how to correct our mistakes and advance our civilization. In the end, humans are the ones with the power to imagine new concepts and ideas to solve problems.
